Dr. Tomomi Ichinose

Dr. Tomomi Ichinose has served the NIH Biology and Development of the Eye (BDE) Study Section as a standing member since 2022.

Dr. Ichinose was invited to serve as a member of the BDE study section by NIH in 2022. The invitation letter states that she was invited because she demonstrated competence and achievement in her scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of her research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements, and honors. The invitation letter also states that Dr. Ichinose is qualified to serve with mature judgment and objectivity, as well as the ability to work effectively in a group. 

As a standing member, Dr. Ichinose reads approximately 10 NIH R01 and R21 grants and writes critiques three times per year. At the Study Section, she participates in intense discussions of applications and scores them. Although the task keeps her busy, she feels that it is a rewarding job to learn cutting-edge science from excellent applications. 

Dr. Ichinose is a Professor in the OVAS Department. Dr. Ichinose’s lab research focuses on understanding the neural networks in the retina using patch clamp recordings, two-photon Ca2+ imaging, multiple electrode array (MEA), and mouse behavioral studies. Her research is supported by two R01 grants from the NIH.
