Dr. Susmit Suvas

Dr. Susmit Suvas has recently been invited to serve as a chartered member of the Pathophysiology of Eye Disease – 2 (PED2) Study Section

On behalf of the Director, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Dr. Susmit Suvas has recently been invited to serve as a chartered member of the Pathophysiology of Eye Disease – 2 (PED2) Study Section, Center for Scientific Review, for the term beginning July 01, 2021, and ending June 30, 2024. NIH Study sections review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on the applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science. These functions are of great value to medical and allied research.

Dr. Suvas has been nominated because of his demonstrated competence and achievement in his scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of his research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors. Service on a study section also requires mature judgment and objectivity as well as the ability to work effectively in a group, qualities that Dr. Suvas will bring to this important task. Dr. Suvas membership on a study section represents a major commitment of professional time and energy as well as a unique opportunity to contribute to the national biomedical research effort.

Dr. Suvas has recently been promoted to the rank of Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Visual and Anatomical Sciences. He is also the Graduate Director of the Ph.D. program of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the School of Medicine. Dr. Suvas’s lab research is focused to understand the immunity and pathogenesis to corneal herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. His research is supported by two R01s grants from the National Eye Institute.
