Assistantships - (GRA Appointments)
Students admitted to the Ph.D. program are appointed as Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs). This appointment comes with an annual stipend ($30,000), subsidized health insurance, and up to 22 credits of tuition coverage per year. GRA-appointed students are full-time researchers with no teaching responsibilities.
Additional support mechanisms
Students who have completed their 2nd year of graduate training are encouraged develop and submit an NIH application for the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards for Individual Predoctoral Fellows (F31). In order to be considered competitive for this F31 award, the student's advisor must have a current R01-type award and have documented experience in the training of graduate students. These awards are highly competitive and should be developed in consultation with the student's advisor and department.
