Admission
Applications to the program are considered for Fall semester admission only. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis from January to May. Admission is typically offered to 4 - 6 students each year.
Applicant qualifications
Undergraduate degree
Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited US institution, or a degree equivalent to a four-year U.S. baccalaureate degree from a college or university of government-recognized standing. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4-point scale) and demonstrate a 3.0 GPA performance in life science coursework.
Standardized exams
While not required, standardized exam scores (e.g., General Subject GRE, MCAT) will be taken into account.
Faculty recommendations
Three letters of recommendation must be obtained from faculty who can evaluate the academic potential of the student. It is recommended that letters are provided by faculty with direct knowledge of performance and potential in science-related coursework. Letters that focus primarily on character references are not recommended.
Personal Statement of career goals
Applicants must provide a Personal Statement explaining their rationale for applying to the Anatomy & Cell Biology Master's Program and include a statement of future career goals beyond the Master of Science degree. The inclusion of undergraduate research (beyond coursework laboratory assignments) or teaching experience is highly encouraged.
Resume (curriculum vitae)
Applicants must submit a resumé summarizing the student's academic, teaching, and research experiences. Publications, presentations, volunteer opportunities, and research techniques with which the student has expertise should also be listed.
Evidence of English proficiency
If the undergraduate education was completed in a country where English is not the native language, proof of English proficiency is required. The TOEFL is the most frequently used standardized indicator of English proficiency. For further information on registering for the test, visit www.ToeflGoAnywhere.org. The TOEFL must be no more than two years old when applying to the master's program. Please report your score to Wayne State University (Institution code 1898). The Departmental code for Anatomy is 32. To be considered qualified for admission, the minimal score on the internet-based TOEFL is 100.
Application process
All applications to our program are processed electronically by WSU's Office of Graduate Admissions. The department no longer accepts paper applications. Applications are accepted for the Fall semester of the upcoming academic year. Applications are not accepted for the Winter or Spring/Summer semesters.
